Senior Prep Notices 17 February 2017

DSC_0309National Teacher’s Awards: On Friday 24 February 2017, we will be hosting the “National Teachers Awards”. Please be aware that the Pre Prep and Junior Prep parking will be fully utilised, parents are encouraged to use the main gate when fetching their children from holiday care.

High School Information Talk: All SP parents are invited to attend a Grayston panel discussion on choosing a high school for their child on Tuesday, 28 February at 18:30 in the school hall. Although all SP parents are welcome to attend, the discussion will be primarily aimed at the Grade 5-7 parents who need information on what goes into choosing a high school.

Midterm Break: On Thursday 23 February 2017, school closes at 12:00 for midterm break, aftercare will operate as normal and all children are expected to return to school on Tuesday 28 February 2017.

Holiday Care: It is that time of the year again where we go on midterm break. Friday, 24 February 2017: Join us for a movie, popcorn, lunch and snacks. Relax with your friends at our holiday care. We hope to see you all there. Monday, 27 February 2017: Come join us for a water slide bash including Lunch, snacks, and slush. Time: 7h30 till 17h30. Attendance for Option 1 children is free. R200.00 per day for all other Grayston children.

Smoke Free Zone: For the health of our students, employees, vendors and visitors. Smoking is not permitted on this campus. This includes all buildings, parking lot and sport grounds. If you see any visiting parents smoking on the fields, please can you report the matter to reception.

Birthday Books: A big thank you to everyone who bought birthday books. It is much appreciated. If you bought a birthday book and your child has not received it in his/her birthday month, please mail me at If you bought a birthday book and have not already paid for the book, please send the money to Mrs Conradie in a marked envelope. A reminder that children must collect their books from the media centre in the month they celebrate their birthdays please.

Missing iPad: An iPad went missing earlier this week. If anyone has seen an iPad that doesn’t belong to them, please return it to reception or Mr Atkinson.

Lightning Alert: Should the lightning alarm go off after school all learners will move to register classrooms to be supervised by their teachers. Parents may collect them from here. Parents who are limited in mobility may ask Pat at reception to call their children over the intercom. We have placed a lightning alert light at both gates should this light be red please note the lightning alarm/procedure is active.

Lost property: Lost property is becoming a problem once again. There are items that are not labelled which makes it difficult for Pat to trace the owners. Parents are reminded to please label all belongings and encourage their children to look after their property.

Staff News: It is always a sad occasion when we bid farewell to a staff member. Mr Nick Smit will be leaving us during the course of this year to pursue his entrepreneurial dreams. He has, however, kindly agreed to stay on to assist us until we find the best possible candidate for our Maths department.

Barefoot Day: It is that time of the year again where we are  getting ready for Barefoot Day 2017. We challenge you to make a difference by donating a pair of school shoes (new or old) AND walking barefoot at school on Thursday 23 February 2017.  Please tie the shoes together with string or an elastic band or put them into a plastic bag and label the shoe sizes to make it easier for distribution. Go on, take off your shoes and make a difference.

Technology Training Sessions for Parents: Parents interested in learning more about how their children are making use of the iPad in their daily school life and how to increase the level of safety on their children’s device are invited to attend either of the following training sessions:

Tuesday, 21 February, 07h00 – 08h00 & 18h30 – 19h30

We will be covering the following topics in these training sessions:

  • Using restrictions on the iPad
  • Apps to help with monitoring iPad usage
  • Understanding the workflow within the Google Suite (G-Suite)

Both the sessions will be presented in the Media Centre. Please feel free to bring along your iPad so that the training will be more hands on. iPads will also be available for you to use during the sessions should you not wish to bring your own. These sessions are targeted mostly for new parents and for the Gr 5 parents as a similar training session was done last year.
