news 2015

FAMSA:  The Grade 5, 6 and 7 children will once again be attending an “Education for Living Programme” conducted by the Family Life Centre during the course of this term. Click here for a more detailed explanation outlining the dates and content covered.

Grade 5-7 parents are also invited to attend a parent talk on Wednesday, 20 May. The Grade 5 talk will be from 17:30 – 18:00 and the Grade 6 and 7 talk from 18:15 – 19:00. Please email chem@graystonprep.co.za by Friday, 15 May if you wish to attend the parent talk.

SP Cycle Test schedules: All Grade 4 to Grade 7 children will be receiving an email and a hard copy of the test schedule. Parents will also have this schedule shared with them and the dates will also appear on the Grayston website calendar. For your convenience, please click here to download a PDF of the cycle test schedule.

Yale Spizzwinks: Due to popular demand, we have managed to secure extra seating for this opportunity of a lifetime to watch the oldest underclass a cappella group in America! They will bring their blend of songs, humour and choreography BACK to Grayston Preparatory School as part of their 101st year. Their vast and varied repertoire allows them to craft a performance that is appropriate and enjoyable for any audience. Seats will be unreserved and tickets will cost R100.00 per adult and R50.00 per child and will include a cup of delicious homemade soup and a fresh Portuguese bread roll. Due to limited seating, we have to limit the number of tickets booked to 6 per family. To reserve your tickets, please send your request to pta@graystonprep.co.za as bookings will not be taken telephonically.

Collection of Children: We remind parents that children may not wait at the gate beyond 15 minutes after the close of school each day. If they have not been collected at that stage, they will be sent to Supervised Homework. It has also come to our attention that there are a number of children who are left in the cage until after 18:00 in the evenings. We realise that sometimes parents are held up by traffic congestion but ask that you make a special effort to collect the children by no later than 17:30 when Aftercare closes. It is now dark and cold at that time of day and we are uncomfortable about having children left in this position.

Prayer for Grayston: A group of parents will be meeting every Tuesday morning at 07:00 to pray for the wider Grayston School family. You are most welcome to join them in the Blue Room, which is the small auditorium classroom above the library. For further information, please contact Amy on 082 418 2465 or amy@quiding.co.za

Autumn Harvest Feast:  The Grayston Prep 2015 Grade 7 Fundraising Committee and award winning chef, Dario De Angeli and his team from Cube Tasting Kitchen, will be taking you on a Rustic Tasting Exhibition. Click here for more information.

Art Club:  Please note there will be no art club the week of Monday,18 May 2015 to Friday, 22 May 2015.  Apologies for the inconvenience.

Chris Bradford, author of the Young Samurai and Bodyguard series: Chris is coming to Grayston on Tuesday the 19th of May 2015. Books will be on sale at R150-00 per book in the hall foyer. Please bring the correct amount. He will autograph any books you purchase.

Open & Under 12 Netball: The Open and Under 12 netball practice will be from 13:30 to 15:00 on a Wednesday afternoon.

Grayston Carnival:  The Grayston Carnival is one of our feature events of the year. The Carnival will be held on Saturday, 30 May 2015 and includes interhouse netball and football for the children from Grade R to Grade 7. Please note that the Interhouse netball and soccer tournament is compulsory for Grade R to Grade 7. If for some reason your child is not available on the day, please send an email to sport@graystonprep.co.za explaining why. The teams lists will need to be adjusted accordingly. For your convenience we have included the fixture programme and team lists on the school website.

The PA have worked tirelessly once again to include a variety of jumping castles, games and activities to add to the fun. There will be food stalls open around the fields. Please join us on the day to spend some time watching the children participate in the netball and football tournament and take the opportunity to meet new families and enjoy the activities on offer. Click here for more information.
