Themes: Our focus next week will be on People Who Help Us.

Cookie Day: The bakers for Monday, 7 March are Ashton Ho, Taylor Gordon-Bennett and Sornam Dorasamy

Grandparents’ Tea Party: You should have received the invitation for this event on Monday. We would appreciate it if you could return the reply slips to the class teacher by no later than 18 March to facilitate catering. Should you have any queries, please contact lyndaj@graystonprep.co.za.

Swimming: Please ensure that your children bring their rash vests for swimming during PE. Not only do they provide important sun protection but they also prevent the pool noodles from rubbing on the children’s skin.

Specialist Open Morning: Please diarise the date of Thursday, 31 March for the Specialist Open Morning. On this day, parents are invited to visit the school for an hour or two and accompany the children to Physical Education, Music and IT lessons. Details will follow shortly.

Progress Interviews: This term, we do not provide written reports but interview each set of parents to provide a comprehensive oral report on the progress of your children. These interviews will take place between Monday, 14 March and Thursday, 8 April. On Monday, 7 March each class teacher will display a schedule of her available appointment times so that you can book a time that is convenient for you. We look forward to meeting you.

Grade R Letter of the Week: We will be introducing the letter Gg next week and remind children to bring pictures or objects to school that have the letter in their names. Please also practise forming and naming the letters Aa to Ff at home.

Grade R Speakers: If any parents would like to talk to the Grade R children about the jobs that they do, please contact the class teacher. We plan to hold this ‘Job Talk’ between 07:30 and 08:30 on Friday, 18 March.

Grade R Envelopes: Grade R parents are asked to send a stamped, self-addressed envelope (name and postal address) to school. The children will ‘write’ a letter to you and we will post it. On receipt of the letter, you should reply and bring the reply to school.

Grade 00 Appeal: Please collect polystyrene trays and clean tin cans and deliver these to teh classrooms.

Grade 000 Stickeez Appeal: Ms Zeeman is looking for any Stickeez that are no longer needed. Please deliver these to her for counting and sorting activities.

Grade 000 Reminder: The Grade 000 children are reminded to return their family trees by Monday, 7 March. Parents are also asked to check the post bags in the classroom.

Reminder: Next week is a Red Week.

Outreach Team: This term the outreach team will be collecting pencil cases. You will remember last year we all collected used stationary so now we need pencil cases to put it in. If we all do a little bit we can make a big difference! Be sure to bring pencil cases that rulers can fit into. You can drop off your donation in the hall foyer. The pencil cases can be new or used. We would really appreciate it if everyone in the school could bring a pencil case so that we can give to those less fortunate than us! Just imagine the smile you can put on someones face by just bringing a pencil case! To those who have already brought, well done!

Parking: We make a special appeal to parents using the parking on North Road to exercise patience and consideration when dropping and collecting your children. There is unavoidable congestion in this area at peak times and the parking bays are narrow. This is beyond our control and so we ask you to take care to park between the lines and, if necessary, please park a little further away from the gate, especially if you have a large vehicle. Another suggestion is to park at the main gate and walk your children down from there – a bit further but there is more parking available.
