Pre-Prep Notices 27March2015

SP Notices 14Mar2014Themes: The themes of People Around the World (Grade R), Children of South Africa (Grade 00) and People Who Help Us (Grade 000) will continue next week.

Cookie Day: The bakers for Monday, 30 March are Mohammed-Yusuf Dawood, Dylan Kempster and Sabre Forbes.

Swimming: Please remember to send the children’s swimming kit for their lessons which will take place as follows:

Monday, 30 March – Grade R girls

Wednesday, 1 April – Grade R boys

There will be no more swimming during PE for Grade 00 children until the Spring Term.

Grade R Letter of the Week: This week’s letter is Jj. Please revise the letters learnt thus far with your children (Aa to Jj) by naming the letters, practising the letter formation and identifying the letters in the environment.

Lost Property: Taylor Kourie has misplaced one black sandal which has a green name label. Please look out for it.

Specialist Open Morning: We invite all parents to spend a couple of hours with their children on Thursday, 9 April from 07:30 to 09:30. You will be afforded the opportunity to see what your children do during the ‘specialist’ learning areas – Music, Physical Education and Information Technology.

Grandparents’ Tea Party: This event will take place on Friday, 17 April from 10:30 until 12:00. Each child from Grade 000 to Grade 3 is entitled to bring along his/her grandparents. We are aware that many grandparents live far away and so, should a child’s grandparents not be available for whatever reason, he/she may invite another ‘special person’ as a guest – a neighbour, a family friend, an aunt, the family’s domestic worker…but not his/her mum or dad. The audience is an adult one and so cousins and siblings do not qualify either. Children may go home with their guests at the end of the function or may be collected by you at 12:00. Aftercare will be operational as usual. Today, Friday 27 March, is the deadline for replies so, if you haven’t already done so, please RSVP to the class teacher immediately. Please click here to download the required reply form. Alternatively, email your response to your child’s class teacher by the given date.

Summer Term Reports: The Summer Term is fast drawing to a close and it is time to give parents feedback about their children’s progress at school thus far. As is our policy, this feedback will take the form of a comprehensive interview with the class teacher. Each teacher has displayed a schedule of times at which she is available to conduct these interviews and parents are requested to choose a time that is convenient for them to meet with her before the end of term.

School photos:  Please diarise Monday, 30 March to Wednesday, 1 April as school photo day for individual and class photos for all children from Grade 000 to Grade 7.  The individual photo of your child will be printed and sent home with your child on the same day and an amount of R100.00 will be billed to your school fees account.

Tuck card payments: Please remember that our tuckshop is a cash free zone. It is incumbent on the parents to deposit money in their children’s accounts by EFT. Please do not send your children with cash deposits as this defeats the purpose of making our school a secure environment.

Cake and Candy Sale: The Grade 7s will be holding a Cake and Candy sale on Thursday, 2 April 2015 on Martha’s Lawn. Please support their fundraising efforts and come along and purchase their delicious baked treats.

Grayston Prep Golf Day: Please join us at this year’s Grayston Prep Golf Day on Wednesday, 8 April 2015 to be held at Johannesburg Country Club, Woodmead Course.  Entries are now open for fourballs and sponsorship so please contact Heather Kruger on to secure your booking.

Dates to remember:  In the next few cold, winter months we have 2 very exciting events planned. The first event is the Grayston Carnival – Saturday, 30 May 2014. We will be providing bouncy castles and children’s stalls, and there will be a variety of refreshments on sale.

The second event is the Grayston Derby Day – Saturday, 20 June 2015. The Derby Day is a Football and Netball sporting festival, hosted by Grayston Prep and will be played against Beaulieu, Dainfern, Heronbridge, Kyalami and Redhill.

Outreach Committee: On Tuesday, 24 March all of the Grade 7s visited Mother Touch Academy where they were assigned groups of children for either a physical or creative activity. All the activities went off without a hitch and the children at Mother Touch had a whale of a time. Once the Grade 7s had finished their activities, they enjoyed some “free time” with the children of Mother Touch and played on the jungle-gyms, enjoyed games of Ring-a-Ring-a-Rosie and a mini motorbike “Grand Prix”. By the end of the morning the Grade 7s were exhausted, but the trip was a huge hit and they all can’t wait until they can do it again!
