Pre Prep Notices 27 May 2016

Themes: The Grade R children will continue the fantasy theme of Once Upon a Time. The Grade 00 children will travel on land, water and in the air as they explore Transport and our little ones in Grade 000 will venture off into Space.

Grade R Letter of the Week: Our new letter is Mm. Please encourage your children to bring objects or pictures to school which have this letter in their names. We ask that you revise the letters Aa to Ll as well as the numerals 1 – 12 at home.

Grade R Task: The Grade R children are asked to be on the lookout for shop logos which can be brought to school to add to our collection of environmental print.

Soccer Boots: Please untie the many knots in the laces of your child’s soccer boots. We are having difficulty getting the children dressed and ready because we are so occupied unravelling the knots!

Cookie Day: Our bakers for Monday, 30 May are Annabelle Gwitt, Benjamin Hale, Matthew Cochran, Niara Nair and Rachel Hardy.

Midmorning Snack: There has been an increase in the number of lunches being ordered from the tuck shop which is testimony to the service being provided by this facility. However, we do ask that you ensure that the lunch you supply or order is a healthy one. As per our policy, the snack should include a sandwich or something similar and a piece of fruit. We do not allow children to have crisps, sweets or other such items during the school morning. Please remember that children who are not collected at 12:55 need to bring a second snack with them.

Movie Afternoon: The Grade 7 Care Bears and the Pre-Prep cubs from Grade 00 and Grade R will be getting together for a special movie afternoon on Friday, 24 June from 14:00 until 16:00 in the hall. It’s time to snuggle into a pillow and warm blanket and enjoy some much needed downtime. The cost will be R50 per child and includes a hotdog, popcorn and juice. The children will be cared for by the Care Bears under the supervision of teachers. If you would like your child to participate in this ‘get-together’, please send R50 in a sealed envelope marked with your child’s name and ‘MOVIE’ to the class teacher.

Help: We are collecting empty spray bottles – the ones with removeable screw lids, nozzles and handles (like the Windowlene ones).

Author Visit: Susie Dinneen, a well-known South African children’s author will be visiting Grayston on Friday, 10 June to read her latest book, Nombulelo and the Moth, to our Pre Prep children. This book will be on sale to the children and, to avoid disappointment on the day, we are taking orders prior to the occasion. Should you wish to purchase a copy for your child, please enclose R100 in an envelope marked with his/her name and ‘AUTHOR VISIT’ and hand it to the class teacher by no later than Thursday, 2 June.

Lost Property: We are experiencing many problems with lost property and are unable to match lost possessions with their rightful owners unless they are clearly marked. This includes items of clothing, water bottles and lunchboxes.

Pre Prep Dads’ Day: We invite all our Pre Prep dads to spend an hour or two in the company of their children on Tuesday, 21 June at 07:30. Details will follow shortly but please save the date in the meanwhile.

School times: We would appreciate it if parents of Grade R children could ensure that the children arrive at school by 07:30 each morning. We are finding that increasing numbers of children are arriving between 15 and 30 minutes late and this causes disruption to the start of the day and the learning that takes place. It should also be noted that children may not be left unattended in the Pre Prep classrooms prior to 07:00 when the classroom assistants begin their day.

Grayston Carnival: It’s Carnival Time again on Saturday, 11 June 2016. Please join us for a fantastic, fun day out for the whole family! There will be Interhouse football and netball, games stalls with prizes, a wide variety of inflatables and lots of yummy food, drinks and hot coffee. Armbands and Grayston Money are on sale from the Grayston Cafe for R120.00 which includes inflatables and game stallsPlease email should you have any queries.

Annual General Meeting (AGM): The AGM will be held on Monday the 30th May at 18h00 in the hall. All parents are encouraged to attend this meeting.
