Pre Prep Notices 15 July 2016

DSC_0436Themes: Next week, the Grade R children will soar off into Transport and Space, Grade 00 will investigate Weather and Seasons and Grade 000 will take off Into the Wild.

Cookie Day: Our bakers for Monday, 18 July are Maya Russell, Hugo Price-Hughes and Thamarai Moodley.

Hats: Please remember the ‘no hats, no play’ rule. Children must bring their hats to school every day.

Library: To facilitate our stock-take, no library books will be issued after 13 July. Please return any library books that your children have at home by no later then Monday 18 July 2016. The weekly Grade R library days will, however, continue as scheduled.

Parent Volunteers: Duty rosters for the weekly ‘puzzles and games’ and library sessions for the Spring Term will be displayed in the classrooms. Please add your names to the list if you are able to assist us.

Old Magazines: We are collecting old magazines for classroom use. If you have any (with suitable content for children!) at home, please send these to school.

67 Minutes for Mandela: We encourage all Grayston families to support our Mandela Day drive. We ask that, leading up to 18 July, you spend 67 minutes of your time clearing out your bookshelves and sending any books that you have read but no longer need to school. These books may be suitable for all ages (from toddlers to adult) and will be donated to the Kwena Basin Community Library, a trust that we have supported for many years. Books may be delivered to Reception. We will also be collecting new or well-loved blankets. Banablankets will be on sale in the pavilion. These blankets are made by an organisation in Alexandra Township, by unemployed women. There will be different sizes available and you were welcome to purchase a blanket and donate it towards our Diepsloot initiative. The Grayston community collected over 700 blankets last year and were able to supply 5 schools in Dieplsoot with much needed warmth.

Outreach Committee: Please start collecting plastic bottle tops and bread tags in your home for the wheelchair initiative.  The bottle tops can be any size and any colour. There will be a “post box” in the pavilion, playgrounds, tuck shop and other walkways. (Can you find them?) Let’s see how many we can collect and give back to people in need.

Weekly Prayer Meeting: Takes place every Friday morning from 7:00 to 7:30 in the Library. Anyone is welcome to join.

Public Holiday: Wednesday, 3 August 2016 has been declared a public holiday due to the Elections. Please note that school will be closed.
