Pre Prep Notices 12 February 2016

Grade 7 Care Bears

Themes: Next week, the Grade R and Grade 00 children will continue their investigation of Me and My Body while the little ones in Grade 000 will explore Families and Homes. Do encourage the children to bring related objects to school for ‘show and tell’.

Cookie Day: Our bakers for Monday, 15 February are Mia Martens, Cruz Baptista and Pedro Duarte.

Drop off and collection of children: Please remember that children may not be left unsupervised in the classrooms before 07:00 when the assistants come on duty. Should you wish to collect your Grade 00 and Grade R children before the end of the school day at 12:55, please make prior arrangements with the class teacher since this disrupts the close of day routine.

Toys: Children may not bring toys of any description to school except as a ‘show and tell’ object. The toys that are being brought to school are causing endless problems among the children and we cannot take responsible for any loss or damage that may occur.

Lunch boxes: We refer you to the guidelines for healthy snacks in the Pre Prep Information Booklet which is available on the Grayston website if you have mislaid your copy. Children may not bring sweets and biscuits to school. These items are not only unhealthy but induce a sugar ‘high’ which does little for the children’s ability to concentrate.

Hats: Please check that your child is in possession of his/her own hat and ensure that it has been correctly labelled with his/her full name, not just initials. If your child has taken somebody else’s hat in error, please return it to school as soon as possible.

Swimming: As advised in last week’s newsletter, the school timetable has been changed. Please take note of the following with regard to swimming:

Grade R girls will swim every Monday.

Grade R boys will swim every Wednesday.

Grade 00A will swim on Mondays – girls in Red Week and boys in Blue Week.

Grade 00B will swim on Wednesdays – girls in Red Week and boys in Blue Week.

Next week (15 – 19 February) is Blue Week.

Grade 00 Sensory Day: This entertaining event will take place on Wednesday, 17 February. The Grade 00 children need to come to school dressed in old clothes and bring their uniforms to change into once they have rolled, splashed and played in a variety of substances!

Grade R Letter of the Week: Please revise the recognition and formation of the letters Aa to Dd. Next week we will be introducing the letter Ee and ask that you help your child find pictures or objects that contain this letter in their names.

Grade R Mums’ and Dads’ Tea Party: This fantasy play tea party will take place on Friday, 26 February during the school morning. The children will be the ‘mums’ and ‘dads’ and will act out a tea party. Please help them to dress up like a ‘mum’ or ‘dad’ in adult-like clothing for the occasion.

Exeat Weekend: School closes for the midterm break at 12:00 on Thursday, 18 February and the children will return on Tuesday, 23 February at 07:30. We hope that you and your children will enjoy the mini-break and return refreshed for the second half of the Summer Term.

Mid Term Holiday Club: Friday, 19 February 2016 bring your children for a fun day out for Arts and Crafts, a Movie and Ice Cream. On Monday, 22 February 2015 The farmyard will be coming to visit. Attendance for Option 1 aftercare kids is free and for all other Grayston children R140.00.

Car Jamming: An increase in car jamming incidents are taking place in school carparks. We encourage everyone to be vigilant and aware of their surroundings when dropping off and collecting children from school. Please see the link below for an explanation of car jamming:
