Junior Prep Notices Friday 7 July 2017

Welcome back: We hope that you enjoyed a restful midterm break and are ready for the last stretch of the Winter Term.

Carnival: Looking forward to seeing you all at our Carnival tomorrow, Saturday 15 July 2017. Starting at 09:00 till 14:00.

Grayston Uniform Shop: Crazy day sale at the Grayston Carnival on Saturday 8 July 2017 from 08:00 till 12:00. On the day specials on blankets, large blazers, fleeces, kids sunglasses and further marks downs on sleeveless jerseys, base-layers and more.

Winter Term Reports: Please return the reply slip to acknowledge receipt of your child’s report. You are most welcome to set up an appointment to see the teacher should you be concerned about any aspect of the report.

Story Poems and Songs: The Junior Prep children enjoyed a performance of Story Poems and Songs in the hall on Tuesday.

2018 January Start Date: Just a reminder that our calendar does not fall completely in line with the ISASA schools calendar. We have decided to start the April holiday a little earlier than the ISASA schools calendar, to allow for a full 3 weeks’ break in April 2018.

In order to make up the school days that are lost during April, we will return to school two days earlier in January 2018. Therefore school will commence on Monday 15 January 2018. We trust that we have conveyed this information to you in sufficient time for you to plan for your holidays.

The Yale Whiffenpoofs: The Whiffenpoofs are visiting Grayston Prep on Saturday 15 July. Please save the date as it’s one not to be missed! The Whiffenpoofs are the world’s oldest and best-known collegiate a cappella group and are the seniors to the Yale Spizzwinks, who are all undergrads. Tickets cost R120 for adults, R70 for children. Soup and a roll are included in the price and seating is on a first come first served basis. The PA will be selling tickets every Wednesday and Friday after midterm, at the top and bottom gates.

Host a Whiffenpoof: We are looking for families who would be willing to host a student from Yale for the night of Saturday 15 July after the performance at school. If you are able to, please contact for more information.

67 Minutes for Mandela: We encourage all Grayston families to support our Mandela Day drive. We ask that, leading up to the 18 July, you spend 67 minutes of your time clearing out your bookshelves and sending any books that you have read but no longer need to school. These books may be suitable for all ages (from toddlers to adult) and will be donated to the Kwena Basin Community Library, a trust that we have supported for many years. Books may be delivered to Reception. We will also be collecting new or well-loved blankets. BanaBlankets will be on sale in the pavilion and at the entrances to the school. These blankets are made by an organisation in Alexandra Township, by unemployed women. There will be different sizes available and you are welcome to purchase a blanket for yourselves or donate it towards our outreach initiative.

Grade One

  • Our new theme of Plants begins next week.
  • We will be visiting Garden World – Grade 1A and Grade 1C on 18 July; Grade 1B and Grade 1D on 19 July. Children should wear their full school tracksuits, hats and black tackies and should carry their lunches in disposable containers.

Grade Two

  • The children conducted a fruit investigation this week and even tasted some that they had never tried before!

Grade Three

  • The new co-curricular timetable commenced on Monday. The Grade Threes are expected to participate in two afternoons of co-curricular activity. Please consult the programme on the website and have your child choose appropriate activities. Encourage the children to try something new, even if they feel that they can’t do something. It is only by participating that they will develop the necessary skills.
