Junior Prep Notices 8May2015

Humility PosterWelcome back: We welcome all our parents and children back to school for the Winter Term and trust that you enjoyed the holiday. At the beginning of the year, we introduced you to Grayston Prep’s new core values. They are;

Courage

Perseverance

Humility

Lifelong Learning

Trust

Community

Each core value will be shared with you through powerful stories, but not just any stories. Each of the stories will relate to a core value and will be true and specific to Grayston Prep, as told through the events of a Grayston Prep child, parent or staff member. The third core value of Humility was announced by our Headmaster, Mark Hayter, in assembly on Wednesday. Humility is the quality of having a modest or low view of one’s importance. Our story of Humility is told by our Estate Assistant, Lucky Phiri and we encourage you to read it on our Grayston website or our Grayston Facebook page.

After much deliberation and consideration, it has been decided to discontinue the printing of the term z-folded calendars. But dont despair as each and every school event and sports fixture is detailed on our Grayston Google calendar which is live and available on the Grayston Prep App as well as on the Grayston website. For your convenience, you may download a PDF version of the term 2 calendar here but please bear in mind that you may still need to consult the Grayston App or the Grayston website for updates and possible changes to sports fixtures. The Grayston Prep communication portal app will let your child’s educational information find you on the move, and will improve the method of communication between you and the School.  This communication portal is an easy-to-use tool that pushes news information and notices directly to parents so no matter where you are, you’re never out of touch.  It’s simple and it’s immediate. To download the Grayston Prep App for Apple users and Android users, you may click here to visit the iTunes Store or  you may click here to visit the Google Play Store.

Please be reminded that in addition to the Grayston Prep App, you may subscribe to the Subscription Service on the Notices page on our Grayston Prep website. All Newsletters, Notices and Sports notices are sent directly from these services to all who have subscribed. The subscription service is linked to the various categories of communication including notices for Sport, Pre-Prep, Junior Prep, Senior Prep and Grade notices for Grades 4, 5, 6 and 7.  All Grayston notices will be sent directly from this service. Please visit the Grayston Prep website to subscribe to the various notices categories, if you have not already done so. For your convenience, you may click here which will take you directly to the Notices page. Once you click on the link below, scroll down to the end of the page where you will find the fields for your subscription requirements.

Uniform: While the children were expected to return to school in winter uniform, the weather has been unseasonably warm and so we suggest that the children wear their shorts beneath the tracksuit pants, allowing them to shed layers during the course of the morning. Please remember that they are expected to wear the full tracksuit to assembly each Wednesday morning.

Yale Spizzwinks: Due to popular demand, we have managed to secure extra seating for this opportunity of a lifetime to watch the oldest underclass a cappella group in America! They will bring their blend of songs, humour and choreography BACK to Grayston Preparatory School as part of their 101st year. Their vast and varied repertoire allows them to craft a performance that is appropriate and enjoyable for any audience. Seats will be unreserved and tickets will cost R100.00 per adult and R50.00 per child and it will include a cup of delicious homemade soup and a fresh Portuguese bread roll. Due to limited seating, we have to limit the number of tickets booked to 6 per family. To reserve your tickets, please send your request to pta@graystonprep.co.za as bookings will not be taken telephonically.

Scrap paper: If any parents have access to scrap paper which we could use in the classroom (printed on one side is perfect), please let Mrs Lachenicht know.

Grade One Outing: The Grade One children will be visiting the farm on Wednesday, 13 May (1V and 1G) and Thursday, 14 May (1L and 1T). Details are included in the letter which has been sent home. Please ensure that you return the reply slip.
