We invite all our JP families to join us for the class get together on Friday evening, 10 February. Please bring a picnic supper and meet on Sam’s Field (top field) from 17:30 until 19:30. The children thoroughly enjoy playing in the wide open space while you get to know the other parents.

Grade One

  • The Grade One children will all get home readers next week – how exciting! These first readers do not have words and we ask that you help your children to ‘read’ the pictures to tell the story. ‘Reading’ pictures is such an important reading strategy and the first one that children need to master so talk about what they see in terms of the characters and the action. Encourage them to make predictions about what will happen next and to justify their opinions. There is a book for each day and all books should be returned on Friday morning each week.
  • Remember to play word games with the pink words on three days every week and to have your child complete a written response to reading once a week.

Grade Two

  • The Grade Twos are enjoying talking about their emotions and what ‘makes them tick’. They loved sharing stories of when they were younger with their teachers and peers.

Grade Three

  • The Grade Threes are having fun exploring the theme All About Me, sharing their similarities and celebrating their differences. It’s such fun getting to know each other!
  • The children should be settled into their routines of afternoon activities by now and all should be involved in the obligatory two activities per week at least. If you have any queries or concerns in this regard, please contact the class teacher.
  • The team lists are posted on the Grayston website weekly. Please check to see whether your child has been chosen to represent a team and ensure that he/she brings the correct match kit to school. The lists will also be posted on the board outside Ms Macnab’s classroom so that the children can develop the habit of finding the information independently.
