Thinking Week: Is a series of five, one-day workshops that, if taken together, provide an introduction to both the concept of the ‘Thinking School,’ and the essential elements within it. Each of the workshops also stands alone. A ‘Thinking School’ is one within which the further development of a student’s capacities as an independent, self-managing and reflective learner drive both teaching and pedagogy. Parents and teachers are invited to attend. Teresa Williams an International Thinking Schools Facilitator will be our guest speaker. For more information please email Nicole Liebenberg ( or Nicola Scriven (

Interhouse Softball: Please note that the Grayston interhouse softball will take place on Monday 27 March starting at 14h50.

Grade One

  • The Grade Ones have immersed themselves in our new theme on Animals with great enthusiasm. They shared what they already know about animals by creating a circle thinking map.
  • The children have made a start to writing independently, by constructing sentences using the weekly spelling words. They really are learning so much.

Grade Two

  • What fun was had at the Pioneer House. The Grade Twos learnt all about the past and how differently people did things.
  • The children can’t wait to share their facts about their ‘surprises from past’ next week!

Grade Three

  • The Grade Threes were interested to learn that Grayston Prep used to be Sandown Primary School. They were amazed that there used to be an aviary and plant house on the property where the Pre Prep block now stands. Some of the children were so excited to discover that their parents and family members came to Sandown Primary! They have really enjoyed looking at old photos to see how the buildings and grounds have changed over the years.
  • Co-curricular 2 takes effect on Monday, 3 April. The children are bringing a selection sheet home today and we ask that you complete this and return it to school by Friday, 24 March so that we can create the registers. Please remember that football is compulsory for the boys and netball is compulsory for the girls. They are welcome to play additional sports like tennis, hockey and girls football as well should they wish to do so.
