Junior Prep Notices 15 January 2016

IMG_1374WelcomeWelcome to the new school year and an especially warm welcome to all the new pupils and staff. We would like to take this opportunity to wish all the Grayston pupils and their families a happy and successful 2016. We trust that you will soon feel part of the Grayston community and enjoy the warmth and family atmosphere which permeates the school.

On a staffing note, Charlotte Higgins joins the Pre Prep as an intern teacher. Candice Kinnear joins the Junior Prep as a Grade 2 class teacher and Mariette Fourie teaching Afrikaans. Andrea Anderson joins the Senior Prep teaching Maths and Life Orientation and Felix Vilakazi joins our PE department.

We look forward to the contribution that these new staff members will bring to Grayston Prep.

Help: We appeal to parents to complete and return the medical and class mum forms as soon as possible. Grade Three parents are asked to cover the THRASS dictionaries in clear adhesive plastic and return these to school by Monday.

Co-Curricular Activities: Grade Three parents are asked to complete the sport selection form and return these to school so that registers can be created. The co-curricular timetable was emailed to you at the end of last year and is available on the Grayston website. Next week is devoted to team trials for the various sporting codes and the programme takes effect on Monday, 25 January.

Supervised Homework: This will commence on Monday, 18 January. Grade Ones will meet in Mrs van Jaarsveld’s classroom while the Grade Twos and Grade Threes rotate between their respective classrooms.

Collection of Children: Children who are not collected from school by 13:35 (13:25 on Wednesdays) will be sent to supervised homework.

Championship Gala: Grade Three children who are selected to swim in this gala should ensure that they have their swimming costumes, caps and towels at school on Friday, 22 January. The gala will begin at 13:00 and parents are, of course, welcome to attend. Children who are not selected may attend the gala as spectators. Alternatively, they should be collected at the normal closing time.

Golf Champs Junior Academy: If you would like your son or daughter to play golf this term, please contact Dave Lewis on 082 731 8648 or  Golf lessons are on Monday afternoons from 1pm.

Grade 1 & Grade 2 Swimming in PE: Grade 1 and Grade 2 are to bring their swimming costumes next week during PE as their PE swimming groups will be assessed.

PE Swimming Days for Grade 3:

Girls Swimming: Red Monday & Blue Monday

Boys Swimming: Red Thursday & Blue Thursday

Birthday Books: Books will still be available for sale at the Grade 1, 2, 3 and 4 Parent Information Evenings. There will not be books on sale at the Grade 5, 6 and 7 Parent Information Evening. In keeping with the school’s move to BYOD, we will be focusing on the purchase of E-books for these grades. Book tokens will be available for purchase on the children’s tuck shop cards from Monday, 1 February 2016. We will continue to keep you updated as the system becomes fully functional.
