Staff News: We welcome Mrs Gill O’Connor to Grayston. Gill is well-known to us and will be caring for Grade 2C until their new teacher takes up her position on 1 July.

Concert: The Junior Prep will be staging Alice in Wonderland on the evenings of Monday 1, Tuesday 2 and Thursday 4 August. Every child from Grade One to Grade Three will take part in the concert and will be part of the cast on all three nights. Please diarise the dates and keep an eye out for the sale of tickets which will begin after the midterm break. Details will be supplied closer to the time.

Concert Costumes: The costumes that we are hiring have been delivered and we need every child to bring a coat hanger on which to hang his/her costume.

Maths Mornings: We would like to thank all the mums and dads who were able to spend some time with us during one of the three Maths Mornings. The children loved having you see what and how they are learning and the teachers have appreciated the positive response received. We hope that you found the experience beneficial and informative.

Lost Property: The lost property boxes are overflowing with unclaimed items. We are looking at a new ‘zero tolerance’ policy regarding lost property since we believe that children are being irresponsible about the care of their possessions. This will be communicated to you shortly. In the meanwhile, please claim any lost items from the boxes on the Grade One corridor.

Uniform: Please note that the children in Grades One, Two and Three are expected to wear their full tracksuits to assembly every Wednesday morning during the Winter Term. Fleecy tops, jerseys and jerkins may be worn UNDER the tracksuit top. The children are expected to wear plain black tackies as part of their uniform and not those with coloured trim or the fashion shoes that seem to be appearing.

Help: The Grade Ones need to collect the cardboard inners of toilet rolls and kitchen paper towels.

Aftercare: The Aftercare programmes from Grade 000 to Grade Seven are co-ordinated by experienced staff and cater for those parents who require supervised after school or sports care for their children.  Our Aftercare facility is offered at the school on a daily basis and also during the school holidays. The centre is open from 13h00 to 17h30 during the Academic Term and between 07h30 and 17h30 during the school holidays. Learners must be collected personally and signed out from this facility. Children may not wait at the cage to be collected in the afternoons after sporting activities they may attend aftercare or supervised homework.

Condolences: Our sincere condolences to a number of staff members and their families. Nicola Bosman’s grandmother passed away on Tuesday. Ezra Ngcobo from our estate team was involved in a fatal car accident on the weekend and Francois Conradie who taught orchestra, trumpet and the saxophone at Grayston sadly also passed away last week. Our thoughts are with all their families during this difficult time.
