Curriculum - Cultural

We offer Art, Chess, Choir, Orff and Marimba in the afternoons. Grayston has a dedicated Music department that offers instrumental tuition in Clarinet, Flute, Classical, Electric/Steel String Guitar, Recorder, Saxophone, Piano, Violin and Drum Set and Voice. Theory lessons are offered in addition to the above instruments.

Art is a crucial part of developing a child's make-up. Each child is a unique individual, capable of fantastic, creative and highly imaginative work. At Grayston Preparatory School we believe that every child has the ability to draw and be creative. There is no such thing as "I can’t draw", if a child can see he/she can draw. We as adults often impose our own stereotypes upon the child, and in so doing, create barriers and limitations.

We run our Art programme based on a perceptual approach. Each child is taught how to observe. Various and exciting stimuli are used, as it is the motivational stage that sets the tone (and success) for the rest of the lesson.

Our children produce work on their own and in groups. They use various art materials throughout the year and concentrate on developing the five elements of Art (line, texture, form, colour and shape.)
